Cynosure FC Chairman Suspended for Six Months over False Match-Fixing Allegation

The Nationwide League One (NLO) Disciplinary Committee has handed a six-month suspension to the Chairman of Cynosure FC following an investigation into alleged match-fixing claims involving Liberty Lions FC and E-World FC.

In a statement issued by the league body, the disciplinary committee revealed that Cynosure FC failed to provide convincing evidence to support its accusations against the integrity of the match between Liberty Lions FC and E-World United FC.

After a thorough review of the situation, the NLO ruled that Cynosure FC deliberately brought the game into disrepute by raising baseless allegations without proving the claims beyond reasonable doubt.

“It is clear that Cynosure FC deliberately committed an act that brings the game of football in Nigeria to disrepute by falsely accusing Liberty Lions FC without concrete evidence,” the statement read.

As a result, the following disciplinary measures have been imposed:

• The Chairman of Cynosure FC is suspended for six months from all NLO-related activities.

• The club has been fined N500,000 for raising false alarms capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Nationwide League One, and Nigerian football as a whole.

• The result of the match between Liberty Lions FC and E-World United FC stands, with no further sanctions imposed on either of those clubs.

The NLO has urged Cynosure FC to strengthen its internal structures to ensure better oversight and avoid similar incidents in the future.

“We strongly encourage Cynosure FC to enhance its internal oversight mechanisms to prevent similar incidents and reinforce trust within the football community,” the statement concluded.
