Daniil Medvedev cruises into US Open Round 3 without dropping a Set
Daniil Medvedev has reached the third round of the US Open without dropping a set.
The former champion defeated Sebastian Gorzny 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 to continue his impressive start in New York.
The victory is Medvedev’s 34th win of 2026, as he once again showed why he remains one of the most dangerous players on hard courts.
Medvedev controlled the match from the start, taking the opening two sets comfortably before Gorzny put up more resistance in the third. The Russian eventually closed out the match in straight sets to move into Round 3.
Medvedev knows what it takes to win at Flushing Meadows, having claimed the US Open title in 2021.
After the win, Medvedev was asked whether he would rather play the hero or the villain if the US Open were a movie.
“I would rather be the guy viewers think is the bad guy almost until the end, then discover at the last second that I was actually the best guy and someone else was the villain.”
For now, Medvedev is doing his talking on the court. Two rounds down, no sets dropped, and the former champion is rolling through the draw.
