Delap makes Chelsea debut in Club World Cup win over Los Angeles

Liam Delap played his first game for Chelsea as they won their Club World Cup match against Los Angeles FC. The game was held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, but there were many empty seats, with only 22,137 fans in a stadium that holds 71,000.

Chelsea scored their first goal when Pedro Neto hit the ball into the near post after running clear in the first half. The second goal came when Enzo Fernandez tapped in from close range after a good cross from Delap.

The main story of the night, though, was the low number of fans in the stadium.

Chelsea didn’t play very well overall, but their better finishing helped them win. Delap impressed in his debut after joining from Ipswich for £30 million this month.

LAFC, who had French World Cup winners Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris in their team, gave Chelsea some problems. But they missed good chances, especially Denis Bouanga and substitute David Martinez.

Another new player, Dario Essugo, also made his first appearance for Chelsea. The team have now won eight of their last nine games, including the Conference League final.
