Demiral unites football superstars with aid for disaster-stricken Turkey

Atalanta defender organizes auctions for football jerseys to raise money for aid

Turkish defender Merih Demiral has used his platform to help victims of the earthquakes that has ravaged parts of his native Turkey by organising auctions of jerseys of some of football’s biggest stars. The defender is lending his voice to the aid required to help his country people after this week’s natural disaster.

Parts of Turkey and Syria were struck by a 7.8 and another 7.5 magnitude earthquake on Monday, leaving tens of thousands of people dead and many more missing and displaced. The defender has established contact with some of football’s biggest names including Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Leonardo Bonucci, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata and Kevin De Bruyne. These players have donated signed shirts which are being auctioned off to raise funds for the victims of the earthquakes.

At present, the sales of the signed shirts of Ronaldo, Dybala and Bonucci has raised €247,417 which has been donated to a foundation on the ground in Turkey. Demiral intends to continue with the initiative as he looks to continue to raise funds to help the victims of the earthquake in Turkey.
