Dessers Talks Confidence Ahead of Rangers’ Europa League Clash Despite Super Eagles Snub
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed confidence ahead of Rangers’ UEFA Europa League match against Fenerbahce at Ibrox Stadium on Thursday, despite being left out of Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Dessers has been in excellent form for Rangers, contributing ten goals and three assists in his last 13 games. However, coach Eric Chelle selected other players such as Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Sadiq Umar, and Tolu Arokodare instead of Dessers for the World Cup qualifiers, which was a disappointment for the 30-year-old.
Despite this setback, Dessers remains upbeat and focused on his club duties. Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland, he said: “It’s important to stay level, don’t let bad periods get to your head, and don’t get carried away in the good periods. Right now, I feel good and confident. I’ve scored a few goals in recent games, but I want more.”
Dessers added: “It’s great to be on 22 goals at this stage of the season, but I want more. Hopefully, I can help the team with even more goals.”
Rangers go into the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 with a 3-1 advantage. Dessers scored once and provided an assist in the first leg and will be aiming to replicate that performance in the return match.
As for the Super Eagles, Dessers remains focused on continuing to improve. If he keeps up his good form, he believes he will eventually earn a spot back in the national team.
