Djokovic enters French open with strange win chance

Novak Djokovic is one of the best tennis players in history, with 24 Grand Slam titles. He is known for winning even when things don’t look good for him. But this year, his chances of winning a fourth French Open title seem lower than usual.

The 38-year-old Serbian hasn’t played well since January, when he reached the Australian Open semi-finals but had to stop because of injury. Since then, he has only reached one final and hasn’t won any tournaments this year. He has 99 tour titles in total and is now in the later stages of his career.

Djokovic lost early in both Monte Carlo and Madrid, and it became clear that winning a record 25th Grand Slam might be very difficult. After his Madrid loss, Djokovic said: “It’s a new situation for me. I’m just trying to win a match or two, not really thinking about going far in the tournament.”

He was expected to play in the Italian Open in Rome to prepare for the French Open, but he didn’t take part and gave no reason why.

Instead, he surprised fans by joining the Geneva Open this week with a wild card. This seems to be a last-minute effort to get more matches on clay before the French Open starts.

At the same time, Djokovic ended his short coaching partnership with Andy Murray. Djokovic had brought Murray on as coach before the Australian Open, and in February said they would keep working together. But last week, their team officially ended after no titles and one final loss in Miami.

Now, Djokovic heads to the French Open with questions about his form and what the future holds. He is currently ranked world number six and has struggled to dominate like he did last year, when he won three of the four Grand Slams.

There is more doubt than ever about whether he can achieve his last big goal: winning a 25th Grand Slam title and becoming the most successful player in history, ahead of Margaret Court.
