Don’t compare eras – Kerr responds to Pippen´s claim that 95-96 Bulls would sweep Warriors

Amid the constant comparisons between Golden State and the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, Warriors coach Steve Kerr provided a different response on Sunday.

Kerr – a member of that record-setting Bulls team – was asked about comments made by former team-mate and Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, who claimed Michael Jordan and Co. would sweep defending NBA champions the Warriors in a seven-game series.

And as the Warriors (68-8) chase down the 72-win league record set by that Bulls team, Kerr jokingly responded to Pippen.

“It’s a really hard question to answer, not just because you’re comparing eras, but literally it’s tough for me to answer it grammatically,” Kerr told reporters when asked about the claim.

“Because I don’t know who ‘we’ is and who ‘they’ are.

“I’ll just say if the two teams played each other, there’s no question we could be us and they could beat them.”

Of the ongoing comparisons between the two eras, Kerr added: “The game is so different; it really is. I know I keep going back to that.

“Because the game is different and it’s officiating differently, it’s hard to compare the eras, to compare 20 years ago to now.

“For example, if you actually put the teams in a hypothetical game, my guess is the Bulls would be called for a million hand-check fouls and we would be called for a million illegal defences when we overloaded the strong side.

“So the game would take like six hours because the refs would be calling stuff all game. So it’s kind of hard to get past that.”
