Dream Cup: Future Eagles off to Japan for invitational tournament

Nigeria’s U-16 boys team the Future Eagles will on Sunday head off to Japan for the Dream Cup Invitational Tournament.

In preparation, the Future Eagles have had two phases of camping in the Federal Capital, Abuja.  During this time, the boys won seven of its eight friendly matches, losing only one game to look perfectly poised for the the challenge ahead.

Ahead of their departure, the team played host to a Member of the NFF Committee on Youth Competitions, Adam Mouktar Mohammed, who doubles as Chairman of the FCT Football Association.

Mohammed was at the teams training ground on Thursday and took time to address the lads ahead of their trip to Asia.

He told the team “My visit today is to encourage and assure of your future in Nigeria football if you continue to listen to your coaches and grow in the game.”

“Discipline and character are values that you must not take for granted. You may be the best player in the world, but without discipline and character, you would sooner find yourself on the scrap heap.”

The Dream Cup Invitational tournament will take place in Japan from May 31 to June 5, 2023.

Nigeria will face host nation Japan, Netherlands and USA at the tournament.

For the opening game, the Future Eagles will come up against Netherlands.

Head Coach of Nigeria’s Future Eagles Haruna IIerika has selected 25 players for the tournament.
