EFA Suspends Referees After Phone Used in Tanta vs Telecom Egypt Match

The Egyptian Football Association has suspended the match officials involved in the league game between Tanta SC and Telecom Egypt SC following a controversial incident during the match.

The referee and his assistants have been barred from officiating until further notice after reports that a mobile phone was used to review a key decision. The incident has caused strong reactions, as it goes against standard officiating rules.

The controversy happened when a penalty was first awarded but later cancelled after what sources described as an unusual review process involving a phone at the sidelines. This method is not part of the approved Video Assistant Referee system, raising serious concerns about how the decision was made.

In response, the Egyptian Football Association has opened a full investigation to find out whose phone was used and how it affected the final decision.

The body also stressed its commitment to fair play and proper officiating, adding that all rules must be followed at all times.

More punishments could be given once the investigation is completed.
