EFF Clarifies Missing Players at Gothia Cup Were Not Official National Team

The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has responded to reports that some youth players went missing during the Gothia Cup in Sweden, saying the team involved was not an official Ethiopian national team.
In a statement released by the Federation, the EFF said it was saddened by the reports but made it clear that the players did not travel to Sweden under its supervision or as part of Ethiopia’s official national football programme.
The Federation explained that the group arranged their participation in the Gothia Cup independently and travelled to Sweden on their own, without any involvement from the EFF.
It also appealed to the media and members of the public to avoid referring to the team as an official Ethiopian national team, stressing that doing so gives a false impression of the Federation’s role in the trip.
The clarification follows widespread reports suggesting that the missing players were members of Ethiopia’s national youth team, a claim the EFF has now denied.
