Eguavoen makes Super Eagles plea in new year message

Former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, in his new year message has issued a heartfelt plea to the passionate Nigerian football community, urging unwavering support for the the AFCON-bound Super Eagles.

The Nigeria national team embarks on its mission to win a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title when the 34th edition gets underway on January 13. i.

Nigeria is slated to face Equatorial Guinea, AFCON 2023 host Côte d’Ivoire, and Guinea-Bissau during the group stage.

Despite the Super Eagles’ less-than-impressive performances in recent matches, Eguavoen, who currently serves as the Technical Director for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is rallying fans to throw their support behind the squad as they prepare for the upcoming competition.

In a New Year message shared on his Instagram page, Eguavoen specifically reached out to Nigerian football enthusiasts, emphasizing the crucial role they play in motivating and backing the team.

As the nation anticipates a strong showing in the AFCON, Eguavoen’s plea echoes the sentiment that collective support can fuel the team’s performance on the field.

“Happy New Year, everyone and especially to my Nigerian family; as we embark on yet another AFCON, let’s give the Super Eagles all the support they need to triumph. As the saying goes, Naija no dèy Kari Last,” Eguavoen wrote.

In tandem with this call for support, the Super Eagles are set to kick off their preparations for AFCON 2023 with a training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The training sessions in the Gulf state will serve as a crucial phase for the team to fine-tune their strategies and build cohesion ahead of the highly anticipated tournament.

As the countdown to AFCON begins, Eguavoen’s appeal resonates with the hopes of fans, encouraging them to stand firmly behind the Super Eagles as they embark on their quest for success in the upcoming African football extravaganza.
