Egypt 2019:Rohr backs Akpeyi after blunder almost cost Eagles against Swallows
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has thrown his weight behind his new first choice goalie Daniel Akpeyi.
The Kaizer Chiefs’ goalie was installed as Eagles first choice for the 2019 AFCON tourney after impressing the gaffer displacing the number one to 2018 World Cup, Francis Uzoho.
Akpeyi who divides opinions amongst fans was praised by his manager for not conceding a goal in Eagles 1-0 win against Swallows of Burundi.
“He did not concede a goal which is good for him and for the team,” said Rohr.
Rohr however expressed his dissatisfaction at his number one for his blunder that almost cost the team in the clash when he almost gifted the Burundians a goal when he was given a back pass.
“Then we know that sometimes there can also be mistakes, what happened when he tried to dribble with the ball I don’t like that he did it, but we will try to make it better next time.”
Nigeria will continue their AFCON campaign with a clash against Guinea who recorded a 2-2 draw in their game against Magascar on Saturday.
