England World T20 side almost decided – Morgan

Eoin Morgan said England are close to deciding their strongest side for the ICC World Twenty20 on the eve of the two-match series against South Africa.

A 3-0 series whitewash over Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates stretched England’s winning run to six T20 matches.

England start their quest to win a second World T20 title against West Indies on March 16 and captain Morgan has a good idea what team he will lead out in Mumbai.

He said: “Our best team at the moment, we’re very close to selecting it or having a really good idea of what it is – which is good, considering we’re a few weeks out from a World Cup.

“Nobody will be rested over the next two games [against South Africa]. They are games we really want to win.

“Twenty20 is very funny in that regard – when momentum is with you, it can be very kind, but also if you’re struggling to gain it, it can be brutal. If you’re trying to turn round momentum, and gain wins, it’s a terrible game.

“But if you have momentum with you, everything seems to click.”

Morgan is adamant that England’s bowling attack can make them a force in India.

“I think this attack can win games for us,” he added.

“With the spin department covered, and the two left-armers [David Willey and Reece Topley] coming in and being a threat up front, it adds a huge dynamic to our game.

“A big strength is the fact we do bat deep. But with these strings to our bow [the quality of the bowlers], it makes us a bigger threat.”

England and the Proteas start the T20 series in Cape Town on Friday, then travel to Johannesburg for the second match two days later.
