Enyimba appoints Stanley Eguma as new Head Coach

Nine-time Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba International FC, have named Stanley Eguma as their new head coach.

This appointment follows the departure of former coach Yemi Daniel Olanrewaju. Eguma, a highly respected figure in Nigerian football, brings vast experience and a history of success. He previously served on Enyimba’s coaching team during their CAF Champions League victories in the early 2000s and is best known for his long tenure with Rivers United, where he won league titles.

Eguma’s return to Enyimba is seen as a homecoming, with the club banking on his expertise to restore their dominance in Nigerian and African football. His immediate focus will be to stabilise the team, rebuild player confidence, and guide them back to winning ways.

The team’s recent struggles include nine consecutive winless matches across domestic and continental competitions. This poor form prompted the club’s management to reassess their approach, leading to the decision to part ways with Olanrewaju, fondly known as “Yema” by fans.

Yema, who previously worked as an assistant to former head coach Finidi George, played a significant role in helping Enyimba secure a 3rd place finish in the 2023/2024 season and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Enyimba’s management expressed gratitude for Yema’s contributions and wished him success in his future endeavours.

As Eguma begins his new role, fans are hopeful that he can bring back the glory days and re-establish Enyimba as a powerhouse in Nigerian and African football. His deep knowledge of the league and tactical expertise make him a strong candidate to lead the “People’s Elephant” during this critical period.
