Enyimba FC knocked out of Africa Football League by superior Wydad Casablanca
Nigerian club Enyimba FC have been eliminated from the 2023 Africa Football League after a 0-4 quater-final aggregate loss to a clearly superior Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.
A 3-0 defeat at the Stade Mohamed V. In Casablanca on Thursday, October 26 coupled with a 0-1 loss in the 1st-leg sealed Enyimba FC’s elimination from the maiden edition of the Africa football league.
In the second leg clash decided on Thursday night, Enyimba FC needed to win and overturn a 0-1 aggregate deficit but the reverse occured.
Ayoub El Amloud fired Wydad Casablanca in front after four minutes after he was set up by Yahya Jabrane who scored the only goal in the first leg on Sunday, October 22.
The three-time African Champions doubled their advantage six minutes before halftime interval through Jamal Harkass.
By the time Yahya Attiyat-Allah netted the third in the 44th minute, it was obvious the People’s Elephants were outclassed and headed for elimination.
Coach Finidi George tutored Enyimba FC did stop further Wydad Casablanca goal invasion’s in the second half as it finished 3-0 at the Stade Mohamed V. and 4-0 on aggregate.
Moroccan giant’s Wydad Casablanca will now face Esperance in the semi-final after the Tunisian club defeated TP Mazembe 3-0 for a 3-1 aggregate win.
For Enyimba FC, attention will shift to the Nigeria Premier Football League. The People’s Elephants are current NPFL Champions and will push for a record extending tenth title this season.
