The English Premier League Referees body, PGMOL has admitted error In the cancellation of Luiz Diaz first half goal in the Tottenham vs Liverpool FC match on Saturday, September 30.
In the 33rd minute of play, and scores level at 0-0, Diaz was played through on goal and dutifully scored but the effort was ruled out for offside by the on-field match officials.
The Video Assistant Referee also backed the decision in a game Liverpool FC received two red cards and eventually lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur.
After a review of the decision, the PGMOL released a statement acknowledging the decision to cancel the Luiz Diaz goal was a significant human error.
The statement by the EPL Referees body read; “PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool.
“The goal by Luiz Díaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.
“PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error. PGMOL will be immediately contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error.”
