Erik ten Hag to stay as Manchester United manager
Manchester United have decided to retain Erik ten Hag as their manager for the upcoming season and are reportedly set to enter contract renewal talks with him.
There were strong rumours that Manchester United planned to sack the Dutch manager before the FA Cup final and had even initiated discussions with potential replacements. However, ten Hag’s victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final played a significant role in changing the club’s stance.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Manchester United leadership held extensive reviews of the 2023/24 season and concluded that ten Hag should continue as manager. The board communicated their decision to ten Hag after a meeting, confirming he would remain in charge.
Ten Hag originally signed a three-year deal when he joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022. Despite a challenging season where the team recorded their worst Premier League finish in history, his job was secured by the successful conclusion of the season.
The club’s leadership had seriously contemplated dismissing ten Hag and held discussions with potential replacements, including former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who reportedly declined the offer. However, the FA Cup triumph and ten Hag’s ability to finish the season on a high note swayed the decision in his favour.
Manchester United’s decision to retain Erik ten Hag signals confidence in his ability to lead the team and potentially turn around their fortunes in the upcoming seasons.
