Ese Brume Wins Gold with Season’s Best Jump at USATF San Diego Open

Nigerian long jump star Ese Brume produced an impressive performance on Saturday, winning the women’s long jump event at the 2026 USATF San Diego/Imperial Open and Masters Championships with a season’s best leap of 6.59 metres.

Competing at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in California, the Commonwealth champion and African record holder recorded the winning jump with a wind assistance of +1.6 m/s.

The performance marked an improvement on Brume’s opening outdoor competition of the 2026 season, where she recorded a wind-aided jump of 6.53 metres at the LA Grand Prix earlier this month.

Brume finished ahead of American athlete Nicole Warwick to claim the gold medal, continuing her steady build-up towards major international competitions later this year.

The Nigerian star, who is a two-time World Championships medallist and Olympic finalist, showed encouraging signs as she continues her preparations for the rest of the 2026 season.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s top long jumpers, Brume holds the African record of 7.17 metres and has consistently competed at the highest level over the past decade.

Her victory and season’s best performance in Chula Vista further strengthen her status as one of the leading contenders in women’s long jump heading into the busy summer athletics calendar.
