Ethiopian Runner Shewarge Alene Dies at Age 30

Ethiopian long-distance runner Shewarge Alene has died at the age of 30, the organisers of the Stockholm Marathon have confirmed.
Alene won the Stockholm Marathon in May this year – her last professional race.
Between 2011 and 2025, she ran in 27 marathons and won 12 of them.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Shewarge Alene’s passing,” the Stockholm Marathon posted on Instagram.
“She became unwell during a training session and was taken to hospital, but sadly, doctors were unable to save her life.
“Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.”
Alene’s personal best time was 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 26 seconds, which she achieved in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2023.
