EURO 2020 held during pandemic with full stadiums – Samuel Eto’o blasts

Samuel Eto’o, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, has reminded the everyone that the Euro 2020/2021 went ahead despite the pandemic with full stadiums.

The former Barcelona striker was critical of the calls for AFCON 2022 which will be host by his federation to be shifted due to pandemic.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, a host of top European clubs with Jurgen Klopp being the most vocal have called for the tourney to be pushed.

But Samuel Eto’o who played for some of the finest European clubs and has many titles to back up his illustrious said he sees no reason why the tournament should be pushed forward.

“Why should it be played?” Eto’o quizzed Canal Plus.

“The federation that I represent will strongly defend the competition.

“The Euros were played in the middle of the pandemic with full stadiums.

“Why shouldn’t we play? We must be clear on this aspect.”

The tournament will take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, and it looks like nothing can stop it from holding.

Despite various reports that CAF who needs financial assistance from FIFA to host the event might listen to the world governing body demand for the event to be pushed forward.

They confirmed yesterday through their president that the tournament will go ahead.
