Dyche was dismissed after a tough start to the season, just before Everton’s FA Cup match against Peterborough.

Both Yakubu and Anichebe, who played under Moyes during his first time at the club, reacted on social media after the announcement.

Yakubu, who played for Everton for four seasons, scoring 33 goals and providing 12 assists in 107 games, showed his support for Moyes with a “clapping hands” and “blue heart” emoji.

Anichebe, who came through Everton’s youth system and scored 26 goals and provided 18 assists in 168 matches, gave a more detailed response.

He said that stability and the club’s core values were important for Everton now, and welcomed Moyes back. Anichebe also encouraged fans to support the team during this period of change.

“Stability and values of what it means to play for Everton is what the club needs now. Welcome back gaffer. The club has changed a lot, so it won’t be easy, support is needed. Good luck gaffer,” he said.

David Moyes returns to Everton 11 years after leaving to manage Manchester United, following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
