Fabio Silva Scores Late Equaliser as Borussia Dortmund Hold Bayern Munich to 2-2 Draw
Borussia Dortmund refused to leave the Allianz Arena empty-handed after Fabio Silva struck in the 89th minute to earn his side a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in Saturday’s Der Klassiker.
Bayern looked set to claim all three points after recovering their lead in the second half, but Dortmund kept pushing until the final moments, with Silva stepping up to rescue a valuable point for the visitors.
The hosts started brightly and took the lead through Konrad Laimer in the 38th minute after Gregor Kobel had initially saved his effort. Dortmund thought they had found an equaliser before the break through Jobe Bellingham, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review.
Bayern had an opportunity to extend their advantage after the restart when Harry Kane was awarded a penalty in the 57th minute. However, the England captain sent his effort against the crossbar, keeping Dortmund in the contest.
The visitors made the most of that reprieve, with Serhou Guirassy bringing them level in the 60th minute after being set up by Carney Chukwuemeka.
The response from Bayern was almost immediate. Dayot Upamecano restored their advantage six minutes later, heading home after Kane directed Joshua Kimmich’s cross into his path.
Just when it appeared the Bundesliga champions had done enough, Silva produced the moment Dortmund needed. The substitute took advantage of a loose clearance in the 89th minute and fired into the far corner to silence the home supporters.
Bayern nearly snatched victory in stoppage time, but Lennart Karl’s effort struck the crossbar as both sides settled for a share of the points.
The result means both teams remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga, although Bayern will feel they missed an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of the table. For Dortmund, Silva’s late intervention will feel almost like a victory.
