Fabrizio Romano shares update on Victor Osimhen potential summer transfer status

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has refuted claims suggesting that Arsenal have overtaken Chelsea in the race to sign Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

While it’s widely known that both Arsenal and Chelsea, along with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), have expressed interest in the Napoli star, recent reports suggested that Arsenal and PSG had edged ahead of Chelsea in the pursuit of the CAF Men’s Player of the Year.

The report further indicated that Chelsea feared missing out on the 25-year-old, a long-term target for the club, despite their extensive efforts to convince him to join.

However, in his Daily Briefing for Caughtoffside, Romano clarified the situation, asserting that there hasn’t been any significant progress in the race for Osimhen’s signature.

“Guys, there’s nothing new on Victor Osimhen so far despite reports that Arsenal are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign him,” Romano stated. “There is no ‘moving ahead’ because it’s not a proper race. There’s no negotiation with Napoli as there’s a release clause, so it’s about paying that money and reaching an agreement with Osimhen. At the moment no club is close to that.”

Romano emphasised that while interest from multiple clubs has persisted for months, no significant developments have occurred in the ongoing saga.

It appears that Napoli has resigned themselves to the likelihood of losing the Nigerian international in the summer, with Osimhen’s departure seemingly contingent on a club triggering his release clause.

Osimhen, who has netted 13 goals across all competitions for Napoli this season, remains a highly coveted talent in the transfer market, with his future likely to be a subject of intense speculation until a concrete deal is reached.
