Falconets coach optimistic about Nigeria’s World Cup prospects
Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, are gearing up for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia with intense preparations.
They have been placed in Group D, where they will face Germany, Venezuela, and the Korean Republic.
Coach Christopher Musa Danjuma is optimistic about his team’s prospects.
Speaking to Pulse, he said, “The girls have been working very hard, and I am delighted at the level of improvement I have seen in the squad. There is greater understanding and ambition to accomplish. At an individual level, they continue to grow and show their determination to excel with a focus on the larger picture.”
Danjuma highlighted the importance of a strong start in their group matches, noting, “We must be very ready from the first blast of the referee’s whistle in Colombia, as there will not be many minutes to make mistakes and adjust against the Korea Republic and Germany. Those two games will be key to our progress to the knockout rounds.”
He also emphasised not underestimating Venezuela, stating, “We cannot afford to under-rate Venezuela – they went through the qualifying rounds. The import is that we must bring our ‘A’ game to the party in all three matches.”
The Falconets will have a final two-week training camp in Colombia before their opening match against the Korean Republic on September 1st.
