Falcons down but not out – What must happen for Nigeria to advance to knockout stage in France
The Super Falcons of Nigeria with their destinies in their hands fought tirelessly but were undone by Wendie Renard’s penalty.
The ten-player Falcons were good on the night, gave all their best but just not enough as they were condemned to a 1-0 loss in their last group A game.
After a 3-0 loss in their first match against Norway, they put 2 goals past Korea in their second game and recorded a 1-0 loss in their last game.
Hence, Falcons with 3 points from three games must wait for results in other groups to see if they’ll advance to the knock-out stages as one of the best third placed teams.
Nigeria with three points could still qualify as one of the four best losers if;
- Cameroon fail to beat New Zealand by 2 goals
- If Chile fail to beat Thailand by 3 goals
- If Argentina/Scotland fail to win against each other.
All eyes will be on games involving Scotland vs Argentina to be played on June 19th by 8pm, June 20 Cameroon vs New Zealand 5pm and Thailand vs Chile 8pm.
