Fans cite injury problems as Al Ahly terminate Junior Ajayi’s contract

Junior Ajayi contract has been terminated with the Egyptian giants Al Ahly after he was told to leave the club.

The former Shooting Stars of Ibadan forward joined Al Ahly in 2016 from Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien and impressed in his first season.

Ajayi scored a total of 12 goals and assisted 7 goals in 39 games in his first season to power AL Ahly to the Egyptian title the first year.

He went on to win three more Egyptian Premier League titles, two Egypt cup, two Egypt super cup, 2 CAF Champions League, 1 CAF Super Cup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup bronze medal during his five years at the club.

While the club did not mention the reason behind the mutual termination of contract, fans who follow Egyptian football have sited his repeated injuries.

One fan said: “If only he can stay fit he would still be in the club.”

This could be the case but also the signings of Percy Tau and Luis Miquissone have pushed the Junior Ajayi who is one of the highest paid players in Egypt down the pecking order.

Ajayi, 25, will not be short of offers within top African clubs and a few European clubs as he is still one of the best players based in Africa.
