FC Ifeanyi Ubah founder passes away

It has been announced that founder of one-time Nigeria Federation Cup winners FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has passed away in London.

Senator Ubah known for his significant contributions to Nigerian football and politics, died in a hotel in London, United Kingdom, just two days after leaving Nigeria.

Senator Ubah was the founder and owner of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, a football club that made headlines in 2016 by clinching a historic Federation Cup.

The club achieved this milestone by defeating Nasarawa United on penalties at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. The victory was particularly notable as it marked the first time a football club from Anambra State had won the prestigious trophy since the state’s split in 1991.

His death has been confirmed through a group chat among senators, where tributes have begun to pour in. Ubah had recently joined the APC and was gearing up to contest for the party’s ticket in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah, originally founded as Iyayi Football Club of Benin City, was later acquired by Chief Gabriel Chukwuma and renamed Gabros International Football Club before being acquired by Senator Ubah. Under his ownership, the club gained prominence in Nigerian football.

With Ubah’s passing, questions arise about the future of FC Ifeanyi Ubah. The club, which has recently slipped from the limelight, now faces uncertainty regarding its future operations and management.
