FIFA 2019 Awards: We didn’t vote for Messi FIFA lied, says Juan Barrera & Zdravko Lugarisic

A national team coach, country association and captain of a country have all rejected the outcome of the 2019 men’s FIFA Footballer of the year award.

Argentina and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was named the 2019 FIFA Best Player of the year but the decision is still generating reactions.

Lionel Messi finished first with 46 points, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk finished second with 38 points while Cristiano Ronaldo who finished 3rd did with 36 points.

Maybe the result might have panned out different according to Sudan’s coach Lugarisic and Nicaragua’s captain Juan Barrera who claimed their results were changed.

Lugarisic says his first choice was Egypt’s Salah but FIFA’s voting document showed Messi as his first selection.
Barrera is also adamant that he did not vote for Messi, as claimed by FIFA.

‘I did not vote for Messi. I was surprised to be on the list of captains who voted for Messi and there is no explanation how it appeared there,’ Barrera is reported to have said.
