FIFA Considers New Rule to Give More Chances to Young Academy Players

FIFA is reportedly considering a new rule that could change how football clubs select their teams, including clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The proposed rule would require clubs to give more chances to young players from their academies by making it compulsory to start at least one youth player in competitive matches.
Some of the ideas being discussed include:
- Every team must start at least one player who is under the age of 20 or 21.
- The player must come from the club’s own academy.
- Clubs would be encouraged to focus more on developing young players instead of depending mainly on expensive signings from other clubs.
If the rule is approved, it could affect many clubs in the NPFL, where teams often rely on experienced players and foreign signings.
The proposal is believed to be part of FIFA’s plan to improve youth development around the world and create more opportunities for academy players to break into senior teams.
The discussions are still in the early stages, and FIFA has not yet made a final decision.
