FIFA U20 World Cup: Japan Beat Egypt 2-0 in Opener

Japan started their FIFA U20 World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Egypt in their Group A opener on Saturday.

The match, played at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, saw Japan captain Rion Ichihara put his side ahead in the 29th minute from the penalty spot.

Just after the break, Hisatsugu Ishii doubled the lead in the 48th minute with a neat finish inside the penalty area. Japan controlled possession for most of the game and never allowed Egypt to settle.

The other Group A teams, hosts Chile and New Zealand, will face each other later in the group stage.

Meanwhile, in Group B, Ukraine defeated South Korea 2-1 in another match played on Saturday night.
