Finidi George unveiled as Super Eagles coach

Former Enyimba FC manager, Finidi George, has officially been unveiled as the head coach of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) introduced him at a ceremony in Abuja on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Finidi George, known for his skills as a winger and his role in Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations victory, has agreed to lead the team permanently.

He replaces his former boss, Jose Peseiro, who left after leading Nigeria to a silver medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

George had previously served as interim coach for two friendly matches against Ghana and Mali. He led the team to victory against Ghana but faced defeat against Mali.

The NFF approved George’s appointment based on recommendations from their Technical and Development Committee.

For the unveiling of Finidi George, the Minister for Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh was in attendance alongside top football stakeholders.

Having been part of Nigeria’s successful football history, Finidi George aims to guide the Super Eagles to success, including their quest for a fourth continental title and advancement in the World Cup.
