Flying Eagles and Ghana Draw 1-1 in WAFU U-20 Opener

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria started their WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship with a 1-1 draw against the Black Satellites of Ghana on Thursday, 10 July 2025.
The match took place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram and was nicknamed the “Jollof Derby” due to the long-standing rivalry between the two West African nations.
Ghana went ahead in the 24th minute thanks to a well-taken goal by 18-year-old Musibau Aziz, who plays for Dreams FC. The goal gave the home side a deserved lead at half-time.
Nigeria responded in the second half and showed strong character. Their efforts paid off in the 83rd minute when they scored the equaliser.
The Flying Eagles are using this tournament to prepare for the FIFA U-20 World Cup later this year, where they will face Norway, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia in the group stage.
Earlier this year, Nigeria finished third at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Their next match in the WAFU tournament will be on Sunday, 13 July, when they play against the Benin Republic in their final group game.
