Flying Eagles to Face Niger in WAFU B U20 Semifinal

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will play against Niger in the semifinals of the WAFU B U20 Boys Championship, currently taking place in Ghana.

The team, coached by Aliyu Zubairu, reached the knockout stage after finishing top of Group A. They drew 1-1 with Ghana in their first game and then beat Benin Republic 4-1 in their second match.

With only three teams in Group A, the final group game saw Ghana beat Benin 1-0, which confirmed Nigeria as group winners and Ghana as runners-up.

Group B Results and Semifinal Fixtures

Cote d’Ivoire finished top of Group B after beating Niger, Burkina Faso, and Togo. Niger came second in the group after drawing 0-0 with Burkina Faso and beating Togo 1-0.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will face hosts Egypt in the third-place match of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, 18 May, at the 30 June Stadium

As a result, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Benin have all been knocked out of the tournament.

The semifinal matches are now set:

  • Nigeria vs Niger

  • Ghana vs Cote d’Ivoire

These games promise exciting action as West Africa’s top young players battle for a place in the final.

Flying Eagles Chasing Back-to-Back Titles

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are heading into the semifinals with confidence. Earlier this year, they finished third at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which earned them a place at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, set for May next year.

The Flying Eagles are also the defending WAFU B champions, having beaten Ghana 2-1 in last year’s final. They will be looking to keep their title and continue preparing for the World Cup.

With a strong mix of experienced and young players, Coach Zubairu’s team is hoping to overcome Niger and reach the final again.
