Flying Eagles to Hold First Training Ahead of Semifinal Clash with South Africa
The Nigeria U-20 national team, known as the Flying Eagles, will hold their first training session on Wednesday evening following their hard-fought quarterfinal win over Senegal.
Nigeria booked a spot in the semifinals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Senegal 3-1 on penalties. The match ended 0-0 after extra time, but the Flying Eagles kept calm during the shootout to claim victory.
The win not only secured a place in the last four but also confirmed Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
To prepare for their semifinal match against South Africa, the team will take part in a recovery and tactical training session at 6:00 p.m. local time (which is 4:00 p.m. in Nigeria) in Ismailia, Egypt.
Their next opponents, South Africa, beat DR Congo 1-0 in their own quarterfinal to set up a thrilling tie against Nigeria.
In the other semifinal match, hosts Egypt will play against Morocco. All four semifinalists – Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco and Egypt – have now qualified to represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
