Flying Eagles Winger Sani Sulaiman Confident Nigeria Will Improve Against Argentina

Flying Eagles winger Sani Sulaiman has shared insights into Nigeria’s game plan ahead of their Round of 16 clash with Argentina at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Nigeria booked their place in the knockout stage after a 1-1 draw with Colombia in Talca on Monday morning. Captain Daniel Bameyi’s late penalty secured a crucial point, helping the Flying Eagles progress as one of the four best third-placed teams in the competition.
Reflecting on the result, Sulaiman praised the team’s determination and teamwork, which he said will remain vital as they prepare to face Argentina.
“It’s all about determination and teamwork,” Sulaiman told FIFA Plus after the match. “We played very well, and I’m proud of the team because we were 1-0 down and came back to draw. Now we’re through to the Round of 16, so I’m happy.”
The AS Trencin forward was one of Nigeria’s most dangerous players on the night, constantly troubling Colombia’s defence. He nearly scored when his curling shot struck the crossbar—one of three times Nigeria hit the woodwork during the game.
Looking ahead, Sulaiman admitted the team must show improvement if they hope to advance.
“We’ll do more—we won’t struggle in the next round because, as you can see, we’ve been struggling,” he said. “But we came back to get a draw, and the next round will be better for sure. I trust my team.”
Although Sulaiman will miss the match against Argentina due to suspension, he remains confident in his teammates’ ability to step up.
“I’ve been confident about this team since day one. I trust the boys,” he added. “They will give everything it takes for us to go through to the quarter-finals.”
Nigeria will face Group D winners Argentina, one of the tournament’s most in-form sides, on Tuesday, October 8, at the Estadio El Teniente in Chile.
