Former Enyimba Goalkeeper Bassa Djeri Dies at 37

Former Enyimba FC goalkeeper and Togo international, Bassa Sabirou Djeri, has sadly died at the age of 37 after a short illness.

Enyimba Football Club confirmed the sad news in a statement.

The club said: “Enyimba Football Club is deeply heartbroken to announce the passing of our former goalkeeper and Togolese international, Bassa Sabirou Djeri, who sadly passed away at the age of 37 following a brief illness.

“This sad news has brought great sorrow to the club, our fans, and the wider African football family. Bassa Djeri was more than just a player — he was a symbol of hard work, strength, and strong spirit both on and off the pitch.”

Born on 17 June 1987 in Bassar, Togo, Djeri worked his way up in Togolese football with great determination.

He started his professional career with Gbikinti FC and went on to earn 15 caps for Togo’s national team, the Éperviers. He was known for his calmness, reliability, and excellent goalkeeping skills.

During his club career, Djeri played for top teams including Coton Sport of Cameroon and Enyimba FC of Nigeria. At Enyimba, he was respected for his strong presence in goal and his quiet leadership in the dressing room.

He was admired not only for his talent but also for his humility and support for younger players.

The club added: “At Enyimba, Djeri showed great professionalism and brought people together. He was a quiet leader off the pitch and a fierce competitor on match days. We are heartbroken by his loss. Bassa Djeri was a gentle giant — a man of honesty, discipline, and class. He will always be remembered as a proud and loyal member of the Enyimba family.”
