Former FC Porto manager set to be appointed as Super Eagles coach

The uncertainty surrounding the position of the Super Eagles coach is set to be lifted in the coming days after a resolution was reached for the appointment of former Venezuela and Sporting Lisbon manager Jose Peseiro as the substantive coach of the team.

After the dissolution of the Augustine Eguavoen-led Technical crew in the aftermath of the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) set out to re-establish contact with Jose Peseiro, who had been contacted just prior to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The decision of the NFF to appoint Peseiro as the new Super Eagles coach was not exactly accepted by the Federal Ministry of Sports, causing a delay in the process despite talks having reached an advanced stage.

According to reports, however, both sides have come to an agreement and are set to move forward with the appointment of Peseiro, who is said to have agreed to live in the country while he works here. An official announcement of his appointment will be made shortly, with NFF currently embroiled in a legal tussle with previous coach Gernot Rohr over the terms of his termination.
