Former Nigeria Super Eagles winger Omatsone Aluko is thrilled after being appointed as the first-team coach of English Premier League club Ipswich Town FC.

On Monday, July 8, 2024, the newly promoted English Premier League club named the former Nigeria international as part of their first-team coaching staff.

Expressing his excitement about the new role, Aluko shared his enthusiasm and commitment to the job. “It is a real privilege to start the next phase of my career by joining the first-team coaching staff here at the club,” Aluko told the club website.

“Learning from the Manager and all the coaching staff here is a fantastic opportunity for me. It is a great time to be at Ipswich, and I’m looking forward to helping the squad continue to learn and take on the challenge of the Premier League,” he added.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna added: “We’re delighted to add Sone to our coaching team.

“His work ethic and values have been important for the club over the last few years, and we know he will continue to bring those qualities to his new role.

“Sone has strong relationships with players and staff at the club and he will be a big addition for us.”

Sone Aluko, who has earned 7 caps and scored 2 goals for Nigeria, played for Ipswich Town between August 2021 and May 2024. He announced his retirement from playing this summer, marking the end of his active football career and the beginning of his journey into coaching.
