Four things we learnt from Arsenal Community Shield win against Liverpool

Arsenal recorded a 5-4 penalty win against Liverpool to claim the 2020 FA Community Shield Cup for the 16th time.

After a pulsating 90 minutes of action which ended a goal a piece, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring Arsenal’s goal and Takumi Minamino netting Liverpool’s.

The game headed for penalty shoot-out where all the players except Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster scored their penalties.

So, what did we learn from the game between the English Premier League winners, Liverpool and the FA Cup winners, Arsenal.

1. Mikel Arteta has improved his team

This is not the same Arsenal we saw previously or the same thing we had seen in the past few years.

Arsenal under Arteta look a lot different, more oganized and even are doing well defensively despite having a player like David Luiz in their backline.

Part of the improvement is the fact that Mikel Arteta seems to have found a winning formula.

His three at the back formation works well for the players currently at his disposal, hence, the balance in his system and set up.

Arsenal have conceded two goals in two games against Liverpool under Mikel Arteta. They conceded 14 in four under Unai Emery and 14 in their last four under Arsene Wenger.

2. He is instilling a winning culture again

There was a time when Arsenal was what comes up when you ‘Google trophyless’ that is not the case again and Arteta’s feat within a month a testament to that.

He led Arsenal to a FA Cup triumph against Chelsea and few weeks after that he doubled it with the Community Shield win against Liverpool today.

They are winning again and most importantly they believe they can win.

3. Arsenal need Ainsley Maitland-Niles

The English utility player Ainsley Maitland-Niles who has been linked to a move away from Arsenal was a big part of their success today.

He has been linked to a £20m move to Tottenham but maybe after his man of the match display against Liverpool he wouldn’t be sold.

4. Still no alternatives to Liverpool front three

Saido Mane, Mo Salah, and Roberto Firmino remain a huge part of Liverpool success and if they don’t perform there are no alternatives.

It wasn’t the best of game for the trio and this ultimately affected the team overall performances.

Early days though as the team shouldn’t be judge by today’s loss against Arsenal but there are signs Liverpool will suffer of the trio are locked out.
