Francis Onyeka Set for Loan Move from Bayer Leverkusen to Bochum

Nigeria-eligible midfielder Francis Onyeka is set to join Bundesliga side Bochum on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 18-year-old, who is highly rated in Germany, has spent his entire youth career at Bayer Leverkusen. Although he has been called up to the senior team a few times over the past two seasons and made appearances in both the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Pokal, he has not yet become a regular in the first team.

Onyeka made his Champions League debut on 26 November 2024, coming on as a substitute for Florian Wirtz during Leverkusen’s match against FC Salzburg at the BayArena.

However, competition for places at Leverkusen is tough, with players like Florian Wirtz, Amine Adli, and Jonas Hofmann all ahead of him in the same position. With limited chances to play, rumours about his future have been growing.

The situation at Leverkusen is also changing, as head coach Xabi Alonso is leaving for Real Madrid, and several key players are expected to move to bigger clubs.

According to Werkself Xtra, Onyeka is now close to finalising a loan move to Bochum for the 2024/25 season. The midfielder still has two years left on his contract, and Leverkusen may extend it before sending him out on loan, or decide on his long-term future based on how well he performs at Bochum
