Frank Onyeka Reflects on Mixed Emotions After Augsburg Loan Ends
Super Eagles and Brentford midfielder Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka has shared that he has mixed feelings following the end of his loan spell with German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.
The 27-year-old left Brentford at the start of the 2024/25 season in search of regular playing time. He found what he was looking for in Germany, starting 30 out of Augsburg’s 34 league matches.
Onyeka is now set to return to Brentford to compete for a place in the team ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season, but he remains grateful for his time in Germany.
“I want to say thank you to everyone at the club. They made me feel welcome and at home,” Onyeka said in an interview on Augsburg’s official website.
“Looking back, we did great things this season. We lost some matches, and although we didn’t achieve everything we hoped for as a team, I’m still thankful.”
The AFCON 2023 finalist praised his coaches and teammates for believing in him and supporting his goal of playing regularly.
“My main goal was to start every game, and I’m happy I managed to do that. I tried to help the team in every way I could. I’ll say I’m partly satisfied because we didn’t reach our target, but I have good feelings.
“When I first arrived, I thought it would be difficult, but everyone made it easier. So, I leave with good memories.”
Onyeka played an important role as Augsburg finished 12th in the Bundesliga, just nine points short of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.
He now looks ahead to proving himself once again at Brentford, hoping to earn a regular spot in the team.
