Freiburg knock Bayern out of DFB-Pokal as Tuchel loses in 2nd game

Lucas Holer’s last-minute penalty helped Freiburg knock Bayern Munich out of DFB-Pokal as Thomas Tuchel lose 2-1 in his second game in charge.

After an incredible 4-2 win against Dortmund in Der Klassiker over the weekend, Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich would be expecting an easy win on Tuesday night.

But they were shocked and sent out of DFB-Pokal in the quarterfinal as Thomas Tuchel missed out on the opportunity to secure a domestic double with Bayern Munich in his first season.

As expected the home team scored the first goal of the game through Dayot Upamecano, the French defender headed home Joshua Kimmich’s corner in the 19th minute.

Freiburg got their equaliser eight minutes later through Nicolas Höfler.

The tie appeared to be headed to extra time, until Jamal Musiala handled Nicolas Hofler’s strike, enabling Holer to score in the 95th minute and secure a shock win for the visitors.

Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel will have an instant opportunity to take revenge against Freiburg this weekend when they travel to Stade Europa-Park.
