French President to Host PSG After Historic Champions League Win
French President Emmanuel Macron will welcome Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players to the Élysée Palace on Sunday, following their stunning 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, his office announced.
Macron praised the team on social media, calling it a “day of glory for PSG.” He added, “Bravo, we are all proud. Paris is the capital of Europe tonight.”
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo also celebrated the moment, describing PSG’s triumph as “historic.” It marks the club’s first-ever Champions League title, a long-awaited milestone for the French giants.
The win sparked wild celebrations across the city, with thousands of fans gathering at iconic locations like the Champs-Elysées and the Parc des Princes stadium to watch the final on big screens.
However, Paris police reported some disturbances during the celebrations. They said 59 people were detained, mostly for having fireworks. Officers also used a water cannon to prevent crowds from reaching the Arc.
