Fury: It is ‘very easy’ beating Wilder and Joshua

Tyson Fury insists it will be “very easy” to take the heavyweight belts off Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua as he seeks a return to the division’s summit.

The 30-year-old held three of the major heavyweight belts when he beat Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, but lost those straps during a two-and-a-half-year absence from the sport.

Those titles now belong to Joshua, while Wilder is the WBC champion, yet Fury is not fazed by the possibility of facing either man after his second comeback bout against Francesco Pianeta in Belfast this weekend.

Wilder will be in attendance at Windsor Park on Saturday night and Fury is looking forward to a showdown in the ring with the American after he has fought Pianeta.

“By no foregone conclusion am I going to win every belt nice and easy…or so the history books say. But I have got a terrible habit of breaking moulds,” Fury told a press conference.

“It’s very easy to do, to win all the belts back – I’ve only got to beat two bums, basically – Wilder and Joshua. Then that’s it, really.

“They both haven’t got a boxing braincell between them so it shouldn’t be too hard for a great boxer like myself.

“All I know is [Pianeta] is in my way. Mission: seek and destroy on Saturday night, get him out there nice and quick so I can go home and then we’ll see what Mr Wilder has to say in the ring.”

A much-anticipated unification bout between Joshua and Wilder has been mooted for some time but has failed to come to fruition.

Yet Fury’s promoter Frank Warren insists the possibility of his man meeting Wilder is even more mouth-watering.

“[Fury] gets this one out the way and that fight [with Wilder] is happening,” Warren added.

“Wilder against Tyson Fury – it’s the biggest fight out there.

“This fight is going to happen, it will happen provided he comes through.

“It’s a huge fight. And the winner of that fight, if it happens, will be the best heavyweight in the world. They won’t be going with begging bowls to Anthony Joshua. They will be the number one, the fans will know it.”
