Future Eagles to Depart for FIFA U-15 World Cup in Azerbaijan

Nigeria’s Future Eagles will depart the country on Wednesday night for the 2026 FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The team will leave through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on a flight scheduled to take off at 9:30 p.m. They will make a stop in Türkiye before continuing their journey to Azerbaijan.
Head coach Patrick Bassey will lead the young Nigerian team to the competition as they look to perform well and gain valuable international experience.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group AD alongside South Sudan, Jordan, The Gambia, Cyprus and Pakistan. The Future Eagles will face a busy schedule during the group stage, with several matches to play within a short period.
The tournament will run from October 22 to 31, 2026, in Baku. Matches will be played in an eight-a-side format, with each game lasting 40 minutes, divided into two halves of 20 minutes.
Beyond the competition, the festival will give young players the chance to improve their skills, learn from other football cultures and build relationships with players from different countries.
For Nigeria, the tournament also provides an opportunity to assess young talents and support the country’s youth football development programme.
The Future Eagles will hope to turn their preparations into good performances as they begin their campaign in Azerbaijan.
