Gauff pushes through Injury to Chase Miami Dream

Coco Gauff is heading into the Miami Open with renewed determination, despite a recent injury scare that forced her to retire at Indian Wells Open.

The American star had to withdraw from her third-round match against Alexandra Eala after experiencing severe pain in her left arm. What initially felt like a sudden sharp issue was later confirmed to be nerve-related following an MRI scan.

Now back in Miami, Gauff remains optimistic about competing, even though she admits the discomfort hasn’t completely disappeared.

“It was a nerve thing… every day is different,” she said. “I may feel it sometimes on court, but I definitely feel it less and less every day.”

Despite briefly considering skipping the tournament, the 22-year-old chose to play, motivated by the significance of competing on home soil. Growing up in South Florida, the Miami Open holds special meaning for her.

“This is obviously a bucket list tournament for me,” Gauff said.

The No. 4 seed has yet to progress beyond the fourth round in Miami, but with home support behind her and improving fitness, she will be aiming to change that this year and we wish her the best.
