#GC2018tabletennis: Obazuaye wins silver in Women’s TT6-10 as Quadri advances to Men’s final

Nigeria’s number one and Africa’s number, Aruna Quadri lived up to expectation as he booked his place in the Men’s final while Faith Obazuaye lost in the Women’s TT6-10 final to settle for a silver at 2018 Commonwealth Games in Goldcoast, Australia.

Having ended the day 9 winning a total of 7 medals from 4 gold and 3 bronze, Team Nigeria started the day 10 like a house on fire.

Faith Obazuaye who had no match heading into the Saturday final met a that she couldn’t overcome. Enroute the final Faith Obazuaye failed to drop any game but the final was a different story.

After winning the first game 11-7 she lost the three games 11-2, 11-6 and 11-3 (3-1) in the game against Australia’s Melissa Tapper.

She could only settle for silver to increase the Table Tennis haul to 2 silver and team Nigeria’s total to 19.

Aruna Quadri was no match for his Indian opponent in the semifinal as the Nigerian trashed Sharath Achanta in the Men’s singles 4-0.

Aruna Quadri whose power and placement worked wonders won 12-10, 11-9,11-9,11-7 against Sharath Achanta to book a final spot against Singapore’s Ning Gao who thrashed England’s Sam Walker 4-0.

The final will be played tomorrow.
