Genk 1 Royal Excel Mouscron 2: Taiwo Awoniyi scores late winner to keep 100% goal scoring record

Liverpool loanee, Taiwo Awoniyi scored a late goal to help Royal Excel Mouscron secure an away 2-1 win against Genk at the Luminus Arena in Belgian top flight game on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker who recently joined Royal Excel Mouscron on loan for the rest of the season after ending his spell at another Belgian club, Gent, was again the hero for his new side.

Taiwo Awoniyi came from the bench to score the winner in his debut game for Royal Excel Mouscron last weekend, again he scored the winner this week in the 90th minute of the game to keep his 100% goal scoring record for ‘Les Hurlus’.

His strike-partner Mbaye Leye opened the scoring in the 17th minute from the 12-yard. The home team was the better side going into the half time break but it was the visitors who were on the scorers chat after 45 minutes of action.

Gent who continued to be the better team got a well-deserved equalizer when Sebastien Dewaest tapped the ball in from Malinovsky’s corner kick in the 74th minute.

With the visitors hanging on to the 1-1 draw, Taiwo Awoniyi who was left alone up front received a pass from the midfield, bullied his way past his marker before shooting from a tight angle to give Royal Excel Mouscron a priceless away win.

Taiwo Awoniyi who debuted for Royal Excel Mouscron last week has now scored two goals in the two games he has played so far for the Belgian outfit.
