Benin Republic Head Coach Genot Rohr has tipped his former employers Nigeria as favourites for 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket from group C of the African qualifiers.
The Confederation of African Football – CAF conducted draws for the continents qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Genot Rohr tutored Benin Republic were drawn vs Nigeria with whom he worked until he was sacked after qualifying for the 2021 AFCON.
Having led Nigeria to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the only team from group C which also houses Benin, South Africa, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, Rohr has absolute respect for the Eagles.
“Benin fell into an extremely tough group, with obviously Nigeria as the favourite, a team we know quite well. But also the others, that is to say, South Africa, already qualified for the next AFCON very early with a new state of mind,” Genot Rohr said.
“Of course, there is also Zimbabwe, which has a very strong physical team, and Rwanda, which we know quite well. And then there is also Lesotho, a country we are familiar with because Benin has played against them.
“It will be tough against South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho, who are geographically very close. As well as Nigeria and Benin, who are also neighbours. It’s a group of people who know each other, making it an extremely technical and physical challenge.”, he told 24HauBenin.
The qualifiers will take place from November 2023 to November 2025 with the group winners automatically qualifying for the 2026 FIFA WORLD Cup.
