Genot Rohr tutored Benin Republic lose vs Madagascar to extend winless streak

Genot Rohr tutored Benin Republic suffered a 2-1 International Friendly loss to Madagascar to extend their winless streak to four games.

Former Nigeria National Team Coach, Genot Rohr has not found the perfect rythym to achieve success with the Benin Republic national team.

Rohr’s men are without a win since a 0-3 victory over Rwanda in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game. Their last four outings have ended in two defeats and two draws .

During this time, Benin Republic held African Champions, Senegal to a 1-1 draw, fell 3-2 away at Mozambique before a 1-1 draw vs Sierra Leone.

Against Madagascar at the Stade El Bachir on Tuesday, October 17, Benin Republic took the lead in the 3rd minute through Cedric Hountonji but Tsiry Razafindrasata equalized in the 21st minute.

In the 51st minute, Jean Yves scored Madagascar’s second goal the match-winner as Genot Rohr and his men toiled in vain for the rest of the game in search of an equalizer.

Genot Rohr was unsuccessful in his bid to qualify Benin Republic for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament and so will turn attention to 2026 World Cup qualification games from November 2023.

Benin Republic will begin their World Cup qualification series away to South Africa on 13th November before facing Lesotho seven days later.

Genot Rohr will meet his former employers, the Super Eagles of Nigeria on 9th June, 2024 in Cotonou, that encounter will be precedes by a hone fixture vs Rwanda on matchday three of the World Cup qualifiers.

70-year old Genot Rohr was fired from his role as Super Eagles of Nigeria Head Coach in 2021 despite qualifying Nigeria for the 2021 AFCON and booking a 2022 World Cup qualification playoffs spot.

On February 28, 2023, the Benin Republic Football Federation appointed the German born tactician to lead their Men’s Football National team.
